Writers understand the struggle of completing a first draft. The blank page is intimidating, even for a seasoned writer. Time and again, I hear the sage advice to just sit down and write. Sounds easy, right? Well, it isn’t. I have to fight the urge to stay focused. I tend to find every excuse to not write during my allotted writing time. I allow my internal editor to step in the creation process, offering criticism and side-tracking my muse. Below is a great infographic that I found to remind me what I need to do to finish my first draft. Once completed, I can step away for a while and then return as the editor; this is the time to edit and revise, rework or discard. The truth is this: I need to finish that first draft to even reach this editing process.
